Forging: The Spoon with April Wood

Saturday + Sunday, January 5 - 6, 10-6pm

A spoon is a utensil consisting of a small shallow bowl, oval or round, at the end of a handle.

Join the tradition of the silversmith and learn how to forge your own spoon. You will learn basic forging techniques such as spreadingtaperingthickeningsplitting, and sinking, working on thick gauge rod and sheet. Come get your aggression out in this class while exploring the amazing way that metals move using different hammers and hammer blows. Historical and contemporary examples of exquisite silverware will be shown and discussed. Surface finishingdecorative textures and polishing will also be covered.

End the class with a celebratory ice cream social and test out the new wares!

Spoons will be forged in copper. Creative Side will provide silver for forging upon request, and for an additional fee. Contact celina@creativeside.org with any questions.
